In India, we’ve teamed up with Empowerment Programs where impoverished women are able to earn an income by creating beautiful handcrafted jewelry and bags.
In Mexico, we’re working with another Empowerment program who are making gorgeous “upcycled” bags using pop tabs and inner tubes from tires.
For the past few days I have been wondering what I would write about on my next blog post. I’ve decided on HOPE – whether it was from the personal roller-coaster from earlier last week, a song, TV show or Facebook post it has been the stories of hope that have reached out to me.
Here in the United States we are very lucky to have a health-care system that provides us with modern medicine and necessary technology needed to treat various health issues – many throughout the world are not so lucky. In July of 2013, I lost my Dad so when I got a call on Tuesday that my Aunt (his sister) had a heart attack I got scared, but she was at the hospital and okay. I was cool with it… she was okay. Then on Thursday while at work I got another update on her condition – she was in heart failure. It was like the floor just opened up and wanted to swallow me whole, I’m not the most outwardly emotional person but I broke down and cried. I had to find some HOPE, something to hold on to! I was being thrown back in to the emotional turmoil of my dad’s heart failure and death; I couldn’t lose another loved one so soon. I was preparing for the worst.
I had to think of the positive. My Aunt Patty is a strong and healthy woman and as I told my siblings about her latest update, I realized that I needed to focus on the good – Patty’s strength, health, love for her family, and her unfailing belief in me deserved the same belief from me. She would prevail – I was finding Hope.
During the weekend, I was reading a book and watching some TV where I was being reminded that we need hope to survive. Life is full of trials and tribulations, but it is with hope that we continue on, hope that gives us the strength to endure and survive the worst. Without hope we lose our will and the spark of our human spirit. I regained my hope for my Aunt, and with the video below, my hope and faith in our fellow man was strengthened. The video is of Big Ten Basketball star from Michigan State – Adreian Payne
Here at Arova, we will continue with our mission to empower others and give them hope for a better life and life for their children. Remember that to give it to receive. In helping others, we in turn will help ourselves live a richer and fuller life. Arova now has a Fundraising Program to help you raise money for the cause close to your heart. “Hope” is the thing with feathers – (314)

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
Update: my Aunt was diagnosed with takotsubo cardiomyopathy. I’m going with she missed her big-brother and suffered from “broken-heart” syndrome. She may still need an ablation.. but she is up and doing some knitting.
Arova Intern is my first blog and I felt it was important to use my initial post as a brief highlight of who we are and how our message blends with and into other people’s lives. Refer back to my first post about Golden Kidz and follow the link to learn more about their amazing organization. A bit about me… I’m a full-time student, veterinary nurse, and part-time Intern and this ‘blogging’ world is a new adventure and it is my goal to continue to provide interesting and engaging stuff.
What is AROVA??
We are an Eco-fashion accessory brand for women providing a sales channel to artisans that make handcrafted goods using natural based and recycled materials. Each product is unique with its individual touch and message.
Arova was a concept that came to life when Megan Milar returned from living in India after three years with her husband and 4 children. While there, she had volunteered with an organization called Developing Indigenous Resources (D.I.R) and wanted to find a way to continue to assist their efforts. DIR is an established non-profit organization that works with residents in impoverished communities within India to build knowledge and skills so that they can achieve a level of health that empowers them to participate fully in social and economic development.
Upon Megan’s return to the States she became aware that the amazing program created to empower women by allowing them to earn an income while working at home, was at risk for being terminated. Our beautiful and unique wine bags (Janta & Tenacity) are crafted by the women of this program. Megan’s love of fashion, business experience, need to help others, and belief in the concept of people, planet and then profit led to the birth of AROVA.
Beside the founder/CEO being one of the best friends a woman could ask for, it is her drive and belief in helping others that has inspired me to spend many evenings talking shop, pounding away at the computer, tagging products, and drinking wine. 😉 Seriously, our journey over the past year of late nights, home parties, events and trips out-of-town has shown me that having faith in a bigger picture can be inspiring. I am excited about our journey ahead and all the amazing things we will accomplish.
What inspires you and have you ever asked yourself –
How Can I Make A Difference for someone else?
A great thing about growing up in a small town is the sense of community and camaraderie one will always have with those you grew up with in the school yard – Alicia was a few years younger than me and a best friend of Arova’s founder – Megan. Although years went by and we all followed our own paths it is great to see our paths cross again and with a common interest – to give back to others.
Golden Kidz is a non-profit organization created to assist with the emotional and financial needs of families with children diagnosed with cancer and to bring childhood cancer awareness to the community (GoldenKidz, 2014). I was honored to be asked to take part in their 1st Annual Holiday Jam in 2013 and meet all the other amazing vendors who attended the event – most especially BATMAN!
